Chef Ideas

We believe that the best way to build software is to do it in close collaboration with the people who use it. We invite you to submit your ideas using the form below. Please be sure to include the problem for which you are solving and the benefits of implementing the idea.

We do our best to implement as many Ideas as we can. Our Product team will evaluate all submitted ideas in a timely manner and will disposition each into one of the following categories: will integrate into the product roadmap, further research is needed, unlikely to implement.

Thanks for collaborating with us!

Create a chefspec command with Chef Workstation to execute ChefSpec

Currently when using Chef Workstation to develop Chef Infra cookbook repositories, common practice is to use ChefSpec as executed via chef exec rspec when unit tests need to be run.

Similar to how running cookstyle will execute RuboCop with Cookstyle configurations loaded, it would be convenient to have a chefspec command and would be more native to the nomenclature of the ecosystem which would trigger the chef exec rspec action.

This could easily be done by adding a chefspec binstub to the chefspec gem and then properly appbundling it in chef-workstation just like how berkshelf, etc is done.
