We believe that the best way to build software is to do it in close collaboration with the people who use it. We invite you to submit your ideas using the form below. Please be sure to include the problem for which you are solving and the benefits of implementing the idea.
We do our best to implement as many Ideas as we can. Our Product team will evaluate all submitted ideas in a timely manner and will disposition each into one of the following categories: will integrate into the product roadmap, further research is needed, unlikely to implement.
Thanks for collaborating with us!
Chef has the ability to tag systems, etc, via knife or it can be done via Automate. What seems to be missing is the ability to say "show me all the nodes with a specific tag". That strikes me as being a logical thing for people using tagging to want to do. We use tagging a lot while patching systems, for example, and there's no easy way to find out what has the correct tag and what doesn't. A power user could make a script to do that, but there has to be an easy way for the non-power user to do this.
Chef tag is available in the client run reports. If nodes are tagged with it, you will be able to filter them in client run report. Am marking this idea as already possible. If you have any concerns please reach out to your respective account manager or customer architect for further guidance.

I am not sure if you are using it the right way. Can you please check once with with your customer architect.

No, because that seems to indicate you're running Inspec profiles, which we're not. Please educate me if that's not the case.

Hey Dan,
Can you please confirm if the "Chef tag" feature in client run reports suffices your need?

We have an option to view nodes with a specific "Chef tag" in client run report. Does it help?

At least a knife command, maybe "knife tag show nodes <tag>" would be helpful. But I would also maybe add a "TAG" selection in the "Infrastructure organizations <org>" screen in Automate that would allow specification of a tag.

Hey Dan,
Thanks for raising this idea. May I know which version of Automate you are using and which reporting view are you referring to?
